Cíle předmětu (anotace)

The course deals with investigation of material and information flow among subjects as suppliers of raw materials and parts, manufacturers of goods, distributors and end consumers with the aim to accelerate this flow, remove unnecessary elements, decrease inventories and costs. All this will contribute to better customer services and make the competition on the market for the firms more effective. The role of logistics increases especially in contemporary global environment. Students will be acquainted with specific methods and technologies of logistics.

Calculation of given examples from lecture notes
Presence:at least 50%+1 of all lessons

Examination Requirements:
Oral and written exam. At least obtaining 70 % of the exam test.

1 Introduction to the course
Industry in the Czech Republic
2 Introduction to logistics. Definitions, Strategies, Logistic system, Logistic chain,
Logistic elements. Places of contact, decoupling point.
3 Forecasting
Steps in forecasting process, Basic types of forecasting. Time series analysis, seasonal
indexes Errors of forecast.
4. The planning process
Production plan, dependent and independent demand, Material requirements planning-MRP.
Master production schedule, Bill of materials file. Inventory record file. Product structure tree.
5. Purchasing process
Purchase periods, purchase groups. Steps in purchasing process. How many suppliers? Some
results of faculty investigation.
6. Push-Pull System
Push and Pull in production. Just-in-time and level of inventory.
Logistic services.
Economic activities, prevailing activities in history and now. The level of services.
Classification of services. Indicators of quality and quantity of services. Life-time cycle of
a product and the level of services. Tailored services.
7. Distribution Chain
Characteristics of the distribution chain. Covered area by the distribution chain. Functions of
the distribution chain. Examples of different distribution chains. Performance measuring.
Inventory
Types of inventory. On hand stock. Safety stock, stock for receiving standardized quality, work-
in-process stock, transportation stock. Functions of inventory. The basic inventory model.
8 . Inventory costs
Holding costs, ordering costs, shortage costs. Economic order quantity. Camp formula. Price
discounts. One shot inventory order of independent demand.
Management of inventory
Continuous and periodic review. Reorder level, reorder point. Basic systems with dependent and
independent demand. Order systems.
Safety stock and ABC method
Safety stock calculation. ABC method category of items. Pareto law. Examples of calculation.
Level of inventory without and with ABC method / example.
9. Warehousing
General characteristics of warehousing main functions of storing. Operations in warehousing.
Strategic decisions. Warehousing categories. Public and private warehouses. Product storing.
Productivity in warehousing. Palette storing. Picking and shipping.
10. Logistic elements
Passive elements. Handling groups: 0-1-2-3 order handling groups.
Automatic identification. Bar coding, Radio frequency identification.Active elements:
Characteristics of road vehicles. Railway vehicles.
Packages in the material flow
Modes of packaging: transportation, business, consumer.
Handling functions, protective function, visual-communicative function.
Packing materials. Recycling of packages.
11-12. Transport
General characteristics. Main terms. Transport flows. Transport classification. Logistics in
transport. Different transport modes.
Rail transport. Railway corridors in the Czech republic. Waterway transport. Air transport.
Road transport
Road and motorway network in the Czech Republic. Classification of main road vehicle modules.
Types of transport. Transport performance. Transport costs. Fixed and variable costs.
Combined transport. ROLLA, Shuttle
13. Process of Supply Chain analysis and synthesis
a)Example in the bakery.
b)Supply chain of Flower auction in Aalsmeer, the Netherland.
